Astrology can be applied to a multitude of fields, other than forecasts for individual persons. One such field is financial astrology, also called astro-economics – the astrological method to analyze and predict matters of business and finance.

Once leading American financier J.P Morgan had commented ” Millionaires don’t use astrology but Billionaires do!!! “. It was common knowledge that J.P as he was popularly known, frequently used the services of a renowned astrologer Evangeline Adams for all his major business decisions. He used the advice to time his financing decisions in U.S Steel, Great Northern & Pacific Railroad. It is also a very public fact that the same astrologer warned J.P not to get on the Titanic !!!

Financial astrology, often regarded as an esoteric and unconventional approach to trading, combines the principles of traditional finance with celestial observations. This intriguing field posits that the movements of celestial bodies, such as planets and stars, can influence financial markets. While financial astrology may seem like an unconventional and mystical method, it has gained popularity among traders and investors seeking alternative perspectives. This article explores the foundations of financial astrology, its historical roots, key concepts, and its practical applications in the world of trading.

Foundations of Financial Astrology

Financial astrology is rooted in the belief that there is a correlation between celestial events and financial market trends. This idea stems from the broader concept of astrology, which suggests that celestial bodies have an impact on human affairs and natural events. In financial astrology, the focus is on how these celestial events influence market sentiments, investor behavior, and overall market dynamics.

The key components of financial astrology include the study of planetary positions, aspects, and transits. Traders and astrologers analyze these celestial occurrences to make predictions about potential market movements. The idea is that certain planetary alignments or configurations may coincide with significant market events, offering insights into potential trends or reversals.

Historical Roots of Financial Astrology

The roots of financial astrology can be traced back to ancient times when various civilizations observed celestial patterns and their potential influence on earthly events. In ancient Mesopotamia, for example, traders and rulers consulted astrologers to make decisions about economic and political matters. Similarly, ancient Chinese, Indian, and Egyptian cultures incorporated celestial observations into their economic and agricultural practices.

One of the most famous historical figures associated with financial astrology is W. D. Gann, a legendary trader and financial astrologer from the early 20th century. Gann developed trading strategies based on astrological and geometrical principles, and his work laid the foundation for the integration of astrology into modern financial analysis.

Key Concepts in Financial Astrology

  1. Planetary Transits: Financial astrologers pay close attention to the movements of planets across the zodiac. Each planet is associated with specific traits and influences, and its transit through certain astrological signs can be interpreted as having potential effects on financial markets.
  2. Natal Charts: Just as individuals have birth charts in astrology, financial instruments, such as stocks or currencies, can have natal charts. These charts are created based on the moment a financial instrument is first traded publicly, and they provide insights into its potential future movements.
  3. Aspects: Aspects refer to the angles formed between planets in a natal chart. Different aspects are believed to carry distinct energies, and their presence in a financial instrument’s chart may indicate potential trends or reversals.
  4. Retrograde Motion: In astrology, planets occasionally appear to move backward in their orbits, a phenomenon known as retrograde motion. Financial astrologers interpret retrogrades as periods of increased uncertainty and potential market volatility.

Practical Applications in Trading

While financial astrology remains a niche and often controversial approach to trading, some practitioners assert its practical applications. Traders who incorporate astrological insights into their analysis may use them as a supplementary tool rather than a sole basis for decision-making. Some practical applications include:

  1. Market Timing: Financial astrologers often use planetary cycles to identify potential turning points in the market. Alignments or aspects that coincide with historical market reversals may be used to time entry or exit points.
  2. Trend Analysis: Astrological analysis may be employed to identify longer-term trends in financial markets. Traders may look for planetary configurations that historically correspond with sustained upward or downward movements.
  3. Risk Management: Understanding potential astrological influences allows traders to be aware of periods of increased market volatility. This awareness can be integrated into risk management strategies, prompting traders to exercise caution during astrologically sensitive times.
  4. Psychological Insights: Financial astrology may offer psychological insights into market participants’ behavior. For example, certain planetary alignments may be associated with heightened emotions, leading to irrational exuberance or fear in the market.

In fact, there is much evidence to show that astronomical cycles correlate with moves in the financial markets, as explained in below videos.

Challenges and Criticisms

Despite its intriguing concepts and historical roots, financial astrology faces skepticism and criticism. Critics argue that there is no empirical evidence supporting the efficacy of astrological predictions in financial markets. The randomness of market movements and the lack of a causal relationship between celestial events and financial outcomes are common arguments against the validity of financial astrology.

Moreover, the subjective nature of astrological interpretations and the wide range of astrological approaches make it challenging to develop a standardized and reliable methodology for trading. Traders should exercise caution and be aware of the speculative nature of financial astrology, using it as one of many tools in their analytical toolbox rather than relying solely on celestial insights.

Conclusion

Financial astrology, with its roots in ancient civilizations and the pioneering work of figures like W. D. Gann, offers a unique and unconventional perspective on trading. While some traders find value in incorporating astrological insights into their analysis, it is essential to approach this esoteric field with a critical mindset. As with any trading strategy, risk management, empirical evidence, and a comprehensive understanding of financial markets should guide decision-making. Whether one views financial astrology as a fascinating exploration of interconnectedness or dismisses it as pseudoscience, its enduring presence in the world of trading highlights the diverse approaches that individuals take to navigate the complexities of financial markets.
